BBC creates an alliance of prestigious film festivals to co-curate the line-up of LongShots, its non-fiction film festival
After the success of its first edition, BBC Reel’s online film festival LongShots returns this summer with a new format and attitude. The BBC has created an unprecedented alliance of 13 prestigious film festivals from around the globe to showcase the most exciting current works in non-fiction that embody this year’s motto Age of Bloom.

The Ladima Foundation has awarded the The Adiaha Award 2021 for Best Documentary Film by an African woman to Zinder, a powerful film by filmmaker by Aïcha Macky. The jury also awarded a Special Mention to Faya Dayi by Jessica Beshir.

Ladima Foundation presents The Adiaha Award at Encounters 2021
The Ladima Foundation is excited to present The Adiaha Award for Best Documentary Film by an African woman at this year’s 23rd Encounters South African International Documentary Festival. Previous winners have included Samantha Biffot for The African Who Wanted to Fly, Philippa Ndisi-Herrmann for New Moon and Tamara Mariam Dawit for Finding Sally.
Encounters announces opening night film
The award-winning, gut-punching docuthriller, PRESIDENT, which follows the corruption-riddled 2018 Zimbabwean elections, has been announced as the opening night film for the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival, which takes place “virtually everywhere” from 10 to 20 June 2021.
